In biographies, it's not clear about the story of Fall Out Boy's first three demo tapes, and how they're often grouped into one. I'd like to clear up the story, and hopefully invite collaboration from those that know more than me on the topic. The first demo tape was recorded sometime in 2001 by the first lineup; Pete, Joe, Patrick, and guitarist John Flamandan and drummer Ben Rose. Not positive on the guitarist, but Rose is confirmed since it was recorded in his basement. The three tracks were "Growing Up," "Switchblades and Infidelity," and "A Good Myth." This first demo was only distributed as a cassette. I don't know the impact this had at the time, whether it helped to book shows and/or got them attention from Uprising Records.

It predated Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend (recorded in early 2002), it would likely fall in 2001. The first two tracks are the same, but "A Good Myth" has been swapped out for "Moving Pictures." This demo was professionally recorded in Wisconsin, likely Smart Studios. Later sources identify Jared Logan as the drummer and TJ Kunasch as the second guitarist. This demo (using the same artwork from The Karate Kid) was released as a 7" single and as a CDr. This demo was what caught the attention of Uprising owner Sean Muttaqi; these exact recordings were repackaged as the split EP with Project Rocket on May 28, 2002.

There was a third demo made in October 2002 again at Smart Studios, this time featuring the first "classic" lineup now with Andy on drums. The session was conceived as another split EP with 504 Plan while they were on a two-week tour with Spitalfield. After the collaboration was scrapped, the three recorded tracks were repackaged as a demo that was pitched to record labels. The contents of this demo were "Dead on Arrival," "Homesick at Space Camp," and "Saturday." These are the same recordings used on Take This to Your Grave.
